8 Frame

8 Frame hive kits.  8 Frame hives are narrower than their 10 frame counterparts.  While not as popular as the 10 frame hive, they are growing in popularity with hobbyists primarily because they are lighter weight.   They also generally costs less than a comparable 10 frame hive.   Bees do just as well in an 8 frame hive.   The only downside we have observed with 8 frame equipment is that there is some variability in width between manufacturers (though they typically all still work together), and a few specialty parts may not be made for 8 frame hives.
