Ultimate Universal Entrance/Ultimate Robbing Screen

Ultimate Universal Entrance,  the upgraded version of the Ultimate Robbing screen (new in Fall 2025).   Improved version of all the features of the old  robbing screen, plus the additional uses as  mouse guard and entrance reducer.   Works with 8 and 10 Frame hives.

How it works:

• Robbing Screen:   Position the Universal Entrance flush to the bottom board, blocking off the normal hive entrance.   Open one or two of the upper doors on the Universal Entrance to allow the bees in the hive to come and go.  Robbers will continue to try and access the hive by the normal entrance, but will be blocked.   The hive odor is directed away from the two upper drawers to discourage robbers from discovering it, plus the small entrances are more defend-able.
• Moving Screen:  Position the Universal Entrance flush to the bottom board and open the lower entrance door.   Once the bees have all returned for the night and are in the hive,  close the door.   The hive will continue to receive ventilation though the holes in the Universal Entrance.   Open the entrance after moving the bees.   Note when temperatures are high and hives are strong, additional ventilation may be needed to prevent the hive from overheating.   A temporary screened inner cover,  all season inner cover, screened bottom board or other method of ventilation may be required.
• Entrance Reducer:  Position the Universal Entrance flush to the bottom board and open the bottom door.   This door has a built in mouse guard and the hive can still benefit from the ventilation holes in the Universal Entrance.
• Mouse Guard:  Extend the 2 feet on either side of the Universal Entrance by rotating them 180 degrees.  This will position the Universal Entrance about 1/4" above the bottom board, large enough for bees, but too small for mice.  The exposed rounded edge make it difficult for mice to chew on it.

Note: When installing the Universal Entrance,  install it flush to the bottom board with push pins at the top of the slots.   This will allow you to slide it up in the "Mouse Guard" configuration without having to change the push pins.   

We personally find that big tall entrances are unnecessary any time of the year which means you can use the Ultimate Universal entrance all year long and don't have to remove it from the hive.
